As I now prepare for veterinary medical school, I want to expand my knowledge of other species and societies. To that end, I am participating in a veterinary science semester in Thailand, which promises 250 hours or more of practical experience working with elephants and sea turtles, among other creatures, all alongside licensed veterinarians.
I also seek to hone my understanding of a career in veterinary medicine by looking beyond traditional methods to expand the range of treatment options, including greater use of prosthetics. Combining my academic success in the UMass Pre-Vet program, my practical veterinary experience, and my focus on technology issues will help me chart a vet school and career path in which I will use the disciplines of veterinary medicine, science, and technology to improve the lives of animals, their human owners, our shared environment, and our society.
